Downpipes

On a turbocharged car, the downpipe takes the exhaust from the turbo to the rest of the system. Armytrix makes de-catted and 200-cell sport cat downpipes, in stainless steel or ceramic coated.

What a downpipe does

The downpipe is the first section of exhaust after the turbo, and on most cars it holds the main catalytic converter. An aftermarket downpipe replaces that section with either a 200-cell sport catalytic converter or a straight, de-catted pipe.

De-cat or 200-cell sport cat?

A de-catted downpipe has no catalytic converter. A 200-cell sport cat keeps a catalytic converter, with 200 cells per square inch.

Armytrix offers most downpipes in plain stainless steel or ceramic coated. Ceramic coating is a heat-resistant finish on the outside of the pipe.

The law in the UK

Removing the catalytic converter or particulate filter makes a car fail its MOT and is not legal on UK roads. Sport cats carry the statutory line: illegal to supply for type-approved vehicles first used on or after 1/3/01.

So every downpipe on this site is sold for off-road and motorsport use only, and each page says so.

Fitting and remapping

A downpipe is usually fitted with a remap to suit the engine. JF Automotive is a tuning workshop as well as a certified Armytrix installer, so we can do both in one visit at our Maidstone workshop.

Questions

Are downpipes legal on UK roads?

Not these. A de-catted downpipe removes the catalytic converter, which is not legal on UK roads and fails the MOT, and Armytrix's sport cats are not type approved for road use. Every downpipe here is sold for off-road and motorsport use only.

How much is an Armytrix downpipe?

Downpipes on this site start at £449 including VAT and free UK delivery. The price depends on the car, the catalyst option and the finish.

Do I need a remap with a downpipe?

Usually, yes. Ask for a fitted price and we quote the downpipe, the fitting and the remap together.

What is the difference between stainless and ceramic coated?

The pipe is the same. Ceramic coated has a heat-resistant finish on the outside and costs a little more.
